Poultry plant planned for south-central Idaho

The economic director for the south-central Idaho town of Burley says Poultry Products International plans to build a $2.75 million chicken processing plant near Interstate 84.

Doug Manning also tells The Times-News that the project includes a hatchery and other facilities at more remote locations that have not yet been named.

He says negotiations are still being held and it's unclear when construction might start, but it could be as soon as this year.

Officials say the company has already purchased 112 acres south of Interstate 84.

Officials estimate the project could create 1,000 construction jobs over two years and as many permanent jobs when construction is finished.
