Call to exempt poultry industry from proposed RGST

The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has urged the government to exempt the poultry industry from the proposed Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) as it is agro based industry and providing cheaper meat to fulfil the protein needs of the masses.

Talking to APP here Sunday, PPA Chairman northern Zone Abdul Haye Mehta called upon the government to waive off regulatory duty on import of maize and fix electricity tariff on poultry industry at par with the agricultural tariff.

He laid emphasis on government’s role in patronizing the poultry industry as it is one of the most organized agro based industry which contributed 40 per cent of the total meat consumption in the country.

He informed that this industry was income generating and providing employment to about 1.5 million people in the country.
